Report: Spurs-linked centre-back currently in talks over new contract

Multiple sources from Italy are now reporting that rumoured Tottenham target Alessio Romagnoli is in talks with AC Milan over signing a new contract.

Romagnoli’s current contract at the San Siro runs out at the end of the season and Milan have thus far been unable to agree on terms on an extension with the defender.

Reports over recent weeks have claimed that the Milan star is one of the players Antonio Conte has specifically asked Tottenham to bring in during January.

TuttoJuve24 revealed two weeks ago that the 26-year-old is also on Juventus’ radar but the Old Lady are concerned that Spurs will swoop for the central defender following Conte’s arrival in North London.

However, multiple sources including Calciomercato.com journalist Daniele Longo,  Gianluca Di Marzio, and Fabrizio Romano have now all confirmed that Romagnoli’s agent Mino Raiola is currently negotiating with the Rossoneri hierarchy on a new contract for his client.

When asked about the centre-back’s situation, Riola said (via Fabrizio Romano): “Romagnoli’s contract extensions with AC Milan? Everything is possible. We’re on it – we’re negotiating.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite possible that reports regarding Tottenham’s interest in the Italian international has been leaked by Romagnoli’s camp in an effort to put pressure on the Milan hierarchy to offer better terms. It is anyone’s guess whether the 26-year-old is actually on Conte’s wishlist.
