Report: Spurs-linked centre-back now in negotiations with Serie A side instead

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham target Trevoh Chalobah has now begun talks over a switch to AS Roma in January.

Several reports over the last couple of months have backed Spurs to reignite their interest in Chalobah in January after failing to get a deal for the Chelsea man over the line last summer (GiveMeSport).

However, a couple of weeks ago, Sky Sports revealed that Tottenham’s interest in the 24-year-old had cooled after he suffered another injury setback.

The outlet added that the centre-back, who has been out injured since the summer with a thigh injury, is not expected to be back until the end of January. Sky alleged that Spurs had thus decided to look at other options.

Roma talks expected for Trevoh Chalobah transfer

Football Insider have claimed that Chelsea do not expect Chalobah to be at Stamford Bridge on February 1 and have told their academy graduate that he is free to talk to other clubs.

The report explains that the player is wanted by several European sides and his representatives have now started negotiations with Roma.

The publication also backs up what was reported by Sky, stating that while Spurs had initially identified Chalobah as a target, they are now focused on other options.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not surprised that Tottenham are looking at other centre-backs, given the doubts over Chalobah’s fitness. Perhaps the North London club will reignite their interest in the 24-year-old next summer if he makes a loan move in January and proves his fitness during the second half of the campaign.
