Report: Spurs-linked centre-back says he expects to transfer this summer

Rumoured Tottenham target Sven Botman has admitted that he expects to leave Lille during this summer’s transfer window, if things go according to plan.

Spurs are reportedly set to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back this summer, with Botman thought to be one of the names on the North London club’s wishlist (The Athletic).

The Daily Star previously reported that Antonio Conte is a fan of the Netherlands international and added that Spurs were ‘desperate’ to beat Newcastle to the 22-year-old’s signature.

The Lille star is also thought to be of interest to AC Milan, with CalcioMercato reporting back in March that the Serie A club had begun talks with the Ligue 1 club over the defender.

Botman has now revealed that he had a chance to leave in January but chose against doing so since Lille were in the Champions League. He also confirmed his intention to leave the Stade Pierre Mauroy this summer.

Botman told L’Equipe (via GFFN): “There were opportunities [to leave in January]. But we also had the Champions League to play in, my first one. And we were in a good position in Ligue 1. I think these offers will come back.”

When asked if he will leave at the end of the season, the centre-back responded: “I’ll see. If things go as planned, then yes. But first of all, I want to finish this season well. The club deserves it. After that, we’ll see. I haven’t decided anything.”

Alessandro Bastoni would be my preferred choice for the left centre-back role but I would not be surprised if Spurs are looking at Botman as a cheaper alternative.

While the Dutchman does not have much experience playing in a back three, he does have the physical attributes to succeed in the Premier League, which might be the case with the likes of Pau Torres.
