CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham target Stefan De Vrij has told the Inter Milan hierarchy that he wants a new challenge.
De Vrij has been a pillar of the Inter defence since his switch from Lazio four and a half years ago and he was a vital cog in Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri side who won the Scudetto in 2020-21.
The Dutchman’s current contract at the San Siro runs out next summer (Transfermarkt) and reports have revealed recently that Atletico Madrid and Spurs are leading the race for his signature (Fichajes).
Football Insider claimed at the start of December that Conte had already had conversations with De Vrij regarding a January switch to North London.
CalcioMercato have now revealed that the centre-back has already made up his mind to leave Inter, which is why he has appointed Federico Pastorello as his new agent.
The report explains that Simone Inzaghi’s men offered De Vrij a new deal over a month ago, which the 30-year-old has still not accepted.
It is asserted that the Netherlands international has informed the Inter hierarchy of his desire to explore another league following nine years in Italian football.
De Vrij is said to be looking for a ‘stimulating challenge’ and but is explained that should the ‘right opportunity’ not present itself to the defender, he could consider renewing his contract with the Serie A club.
Spurs Web Opinion
The CalcioMercato reported does not specify whether De Vrij is considering leaving in January or if he wants to run his contract down and leave in the summer. While the centre-back would likely prefer the latter since he would get a sizable salary at his next club, Inter would probably try their hardest to cash in on him in January.
