Report: Spurs-linked defender could be on his way to Mourinho’s Roma

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Jerome Boateng, Italian publication Corriere della Serra report (as relayed by Bulinews) that the German international could be on his way to AS Roma.

It appears that Fabio Paratici is wasting no time in trying to sort out Tottenham’s issues in central defence, with reports indicating that the North Londoners have already made offers for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Boateng, who is now a free agent after his contract with Bayern Munich ran out, was another centre-back who was rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar before Paratici’s appointment.

In fact, Bild even claimed back in May that the World Cup winner was at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist.

However, according to the latest information from Corriere della Serra, it now looks like Boateng could be linking up with Jose Mourinho at Roma.

The report reveals that the 32-year-old’s representatives have contacted the Italian giants about a free transfer.

It is also stated that the experienced defender is seeking an annual salary of around €8m (£6.8m) to sign on the dotted line.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Tottenham’s financial situation and our need for reinforcements in central defence, one would think that the club would be tempted to pick up a player of Boeteng’s experience on a free transfer.

However, going by the transfer links to the likes of Kounde and Tomiyasu, it very much appears like Paratici is going for young, up and coming defenders who have the potential to improve.
