Report: Spurs-linked defender could be ‘sacrificed’ by club in the summer

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan could look to sell Tottenham-linked defender Stefan de Vrij in the summer, with the defender set to be ‘sacrificed’ to raise funds for the club in the transfer market.

The 29-year-old has allegedly cropped up as a target for Spurs boss Antonio Conte, who is continuing to shape his transfer plans going forward.

The pair worked together for two seasons at Inter, with De Vrij an integral part of the back three Conte deployed en route to the Serie A title last season.

Although the Dutchman’s contract with I Nerazzurri expires in the summer of 2023, Calciomercato claim he could be offloaded a year earlier as a makeweight for the club’s transfer budget.

The report claims De Vrij is a ‘big hit’ for a host of Premier League sides, but a reunion with Conte could be on the cards with Spurs continuing to keep tabs on the situation.

Inter are currently looking at targets to draft into the club, with Borussia Monchengladbach defender Mathias Ginter and Lazio’s Luiz Felipe being tipped as potential incomings.

The rumours regarding De Vrij just aren’t going away and it seems like a move will be made for the defender at some point. He worked with Conte briefly so he understands his methods, which could make him a tempting option to bring in.
