Report: Spurs-linked defender may have already decided to leave – wants £200,000-per-week

The Athletic have revealed that Antonio Rudiger, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, may have already decided that his future lies away from Chelsea.

Rudiger’s current contract runs out next summer and Chelsea have been unable to reach an agreement with him over a new deal so far.

Over the last couple of weeks, there has been plenty of speculation linking the centre-back with a move across London to Spurs.

The Express claimed at the start of the month that Spurs were monitoring Rudiger’s contract situation while Gianluca Di Marzio claimed a few days ago that Tottenham were one of four clubs who were in talks with the German international.

The Athletic have now shed more light on Rudiger’s situation by explaining that the defender wants to double his salary to £200,000 a week while Chelsea are only prepared to pay around £140,000 a week.

It is explained that there is ‘substance’ to reports that the 28-year-old has already made up his mind to leave Stamford Bridge.

Neither Rudiger nor Chelsea are thought to be willing to change their stance, with the Blues allegedly feeling that have made a very good offer to the player.

The former Roma man is now said to be waiting to see what other clubs are prepared to offer him, with one contact reportedly suggesting that ‘a decision to go has already been made.’

Spurs Web Opinion

I doubt Rudiger would consider moving to a club that are not in the Champions League given that he is likely to have plenty of options.

He will also be aware that a move to Spurs will not be received well by Chelsea fans. So, I do not see any chance of us swooping for the German.
