Report: Spurs-linked defender asks agent to explore summer move

90 min have revealed that Ajax star, Jurrien Timber, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, has asked his representatives to explore a move away from the Johann Cruyff Arena during the summer.

Timber has been a regular fixture in the Ajax backline for more than two years and the versatile defender, who can operate in central defence and at right-back, was mooted as a target for Spurs during last summer’s transfer window.

Todofichajes reported at the time that Fabio Paratici had entered negotiations regarding a deal for the 21-year-old, but in the end, Tottenham’s approach proved unsuccessful.

90 min have now revealed that it was not just Spurs but also Manchester United who showed interest in signing Timber last summer, with Erik Ten Hag said to have been keen to take the player to Old Trafford.

It is explained that the Netherlands international decided to stay put in Amsterdam at the time but he is now ready to leave Ajax when the transfer window reopens.

Timber would be perfect for Conte’s back three, particularly in the right centre-back role, and he would certainly be an upgrade on both Sanchez and Tanganga.

However, with Conte and Spurs looking likely to part ways in the summer, it remains to be seen if the next manager will deploy a back three or a back four, which is why transfer targets are unlikely to be finalised until the club narrow in on the Italain’s replacement.
