Report: Spurs-linked defender now attracting interest from England, Germany and France

Palmeiras defender Joaquin Piquerez is reportedly attracting transfer interest from clubs in England, Germany and France after being linked with a move to Tottenham, according to Globo Esporte.

Although no other clubs are named specifically in the chase for the Piquerez, 23, the report mentions Marseille as the lone suitor from France.

It comes after Spurs were listed as one of a handful of clubs monitoring the versatile left-back (Marc Mechenoua), who enjoyed a stellar debut campaign for Brazilian side Palmeiras last season.

Piquerez joined the club from Uruguayan outfit Penarol last summer and established a key role in the side which won the Copa Libertadores.

Making 33 appearances in total last season (Transfermarkt), Piquerez has been capped on nine occasions for Uruguay and is also capable of playing in central defence.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have already added Ivan Perisic to support Ryan Sessegnon on the left flank, so realistically there will be more pressing positions to address elsewhere in the squad.

He could be a very decent player to bring in but he may be someone that needs time to settle in which isn’t what Spurs need right now, while they also have the homegrown quota to take notice of.
