Report: Spurs-linked Dutch international unsure about Newcastle move

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Sven Botman is not convinced about making a move to fellow Premier League side Newcastle United according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The report claims the Magpies have offered the Lille defender a five-year contract at St James’ Park, however, the player is stalling over a switch to Eddie Howe’s side.

Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley claimed in an interview with The Athletic back in February that Botman ‘desperately wanted to come’ to join the Magpies during the winter transfer window, only for a deal to fail to materialise.

Tottenham, Chelsea, PSG and AC Milan are all said to be keen on the Dutch left-sided central defender ahead of the new campaign (90min).

Spurs are in the market for defensive reinforcements having been linked with Alessandro Bastoni (The Athletic), only for his agent Tullio Tinti to pour cold water on claims that the defender could be set to leave Inter Milan amid interest from Antonio Conte’s side.

SpursWeb Opinion

With the greatest respect to Newcastle, if clubs such as PSG, AC Milan and Spurs are keen to sign him, there’s no wonder he is dragging his heels in joining the Toon.

A player of Botman’s quality should be playing in the Champions League, rather than heading up the start of a rebuild at Newcastle who are awash with money following their takeover.
