Report: Spurs-linked La Liga star linked with exit 14 weeks after joining club

According to Calciomercato, Memphis Depay could already find himself heading towards the exit door at Barcelona, after Tottenham reportedly showed interest over the summer.

The Italian publication report that the 27-year-old could be included as a makeweight in a potential swap deal for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Barcelona chiefs are very keen to secure the towering centre-half to bolster the side’s defence and could include Depay and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in a total package worth €75 million (£65m).

Depay’s Barcelona career would be cut very short if he was included in such a deal, after seemingly ignoring reported interest from Spurs in the last transfer window.

Depay has been a shining light for the Blaugrana this season after joining from Lyon in the summer, totalling three goals and an assist in six league matches.

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is already under intense pressure in Catalunya after an unconvincing start to the season, and the club’s hierarchy reportedly view a deal for de Ligt as one to prioritise.

Many remember Depay’s previous experience in the Premier League with Manchester United, but he has flourished since departing Old Trafford.

He was a free agent briefly during the summer and that was probably the ideal time to try and make a move, but Barcelona got there first.
