Report: Spurs-linked manager is now eyeing a move to the Premier League

The print edition of O Jogo (20/03/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Tottenham’s managerial target, Ruben Amorim, wants his next job to be in the Premier League.

Over the last couple of weeks, reports have indicated that Amorim is one of the names on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte at the helm (The Athletic).

Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (12/03/23 via Sport Witness) even claimed last week that Spurs are ‘at the head’ of a long list of suitors for the Sporting Lisbon boss, with the North London club thought to have been impressed by the job he has done since taking over at Jose Alvalade Stadium.

The publication added that Tottenham could face competition from fellow Premier League clubs as well as Paris Saint-Germain for the 38-year-old.

If O Jogo‘s latest update is to be believed, Amorim wants his next managerial challenge to be in English football.

The report states that the Portuguese coach wants to take up a job where he would have the chance of fighting for titles and that Spurs could offer him such a chance.

However, it is explained that, for the moment, Amorim ‘refuses to give too much attention’ to the speculation over his future as he is ‘very happy’ at Sporting and ‘focussed’ on the current season.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Amorim has shown plenty of promise already and he could well have a long and distinguished career in management at the top level.

However, at this stage of his career, it would be a risk for a top Premier League club to hire the 38-year-old as he is still unproven in a top league.
