Report: Spurs-linked midfielder available for potential £16.8m – Wolves leading race

According to the print edition of A Bola (16/05/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham target Joao Palhinha could be available for a fee of around €20m (£16.8m) this summer.

Tottenham’s offer for Palhinha was reportedly rejected by Sporting Lisbon last summer (Daily Star) and the North London club have been backed to reignite their interest in the Portugal international when the transfer window opens (Record).

It was reported by Jeunes Footeux last week that Spurs were facing competition from Wolves for the Sporting star, with the West Midlands side having identified Palhinha as a replacement for Ruben Neves.

The report asserted that Everton, Sevilla and Leicester City also have their eyes on the 26-year-old, who was said to be valued by Sporting at €35m (£29.8m).

A Bola have now claimed that ‘everything indicates’ that Palhinha is on his way out of Sporting this summer, with the Premier League said to be his most likely destination.

The report states that Wolves are the ‘main favourites’ to snap up the midfielder owing to the presence of Bruno Lage as well as the influence of agent Jorge Mendes.

It is explained that Spurs have been following Palhinha’s performances for ‘several months’ and that Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are also keen on the Portuguese star.

Finally, A Bola add that Sporting will not let the central midfielder leave for a fee less than €20m (£16.8m) – a fee much lower than what Jeunes Footeux reported last week.

Spurs Web Opinion

We know that Palhinha was on Fabio Paratici’s radar last summer but I expect us to pursue players of a higher calibre this time out. I believe Conte will want to sign players who would improve our starting eleven, which I do not think Palhinha will.
