Sport have claimed that Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to prioritise a move for rumoured Tottenham target Ruben Neves in January.

Neves left Wolves to join Al-Hilal in a £47m deal just last summer but it has been suggested that the midfielder could now make a swift return to the Premier League.

TEAMtalk reported a few days ago that Spurs are willing to offer the player the route back to England, with the Portuguese star expected to be made available on loan.

The publication explained that the Lilywhites are keen to bolster their midfield since they will be without Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma during AFCON while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is keen to leave, with Neves said to ‘tick a lot of boxes’ for the club.

Spurs may have to fight Arsenal for Ruben Neves

If Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham will face competition for Neves from their North London rivals as the 26-year-old has emerged as Arteta’s ‘new wish’.

The outlet explains that the Gunners boss will try to convince the Arsenal hierarchy to strengthen in the middle of the park due to Thomas Partey’s struggles with injuries.

In fact, it is asserted that the Spanish coach wants the club to make the Al-Hilal star their priority target when the transfer window reopens.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Neves is made available (either on loan or permanently) by Al-Hilal, there is no doubt that a whole host of Premier League clubs will vie for his signature. We will likely see the interest in the 26-year-old continuing to build over the coming weeks.
