Report: Spurs-linked midfielder in London for medical

According to a report in Sky Sports, Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is in London for a medical ahead completing a season-long loan move to Arsenal.

The 22-year-old has also been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer but it is Spurs’ North London rivals that seem to have won out in the race for the talented midfielder.

While Ceballos found playing time hard to come by after the return of Zinedine Zidane to Madrid last season, he was one of the stars of Spain’s successful European U-21 Championship campaign this summer.

AS claimed earlier that it was Unai Emery’s promise to give Ceballos the opportunity to reach his 40 game target next season that proved decisive in the youngster picking Arsenal over Spurs.

The report suggests that the loan deal will not come with an option to buy the player at the end of the campaign.

It looks like Spurs are now focussed on landing Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this summer instead (Diario de Sevilla).

While Ceballos is clearly a talented player, a loan deal without an option to buy can’t really work out in Arsenal’s favour in the long term as if he performs well during the stint, that will likely rule out any chance of Madrid selling the player next summer.
