Report: Spurs-linked midfielder set to join Jose Mourinho at Roma

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, is set to join AS Roma.

Zakaria has gone on to establish himself as one of the most talented midfielders in the Bundesliga over the last couple of years and also starred for Switzerland on the international stage in the European Championships during the summer.

The 24-year-old is seemingly a long-term target for Spurs, first being linked with a move to the Lilywhites in 2019 (Express De).

German news outlet Bild revealed two weeks ago that Tottenham had reignited their interest in Zakaria and were battling Arsenal for his signature.

However, nothing came of the speculation, with Spurs now allegedly said to be pursuing other central midfielders like Juventus’ Weston McKennie

If Corriere dello Sport’s latest update is to be beleived, Zakaria is now set to join former Spurs boss, Jose Mourinho at the Italian capital.

The report reveals that Roma are in negotiations with Gladbach over the midfielder after missing out on Granit Xhaka.

It is asserted that the Serie A giants hope to striker a deal under €20m (£17m) for Zakaria, who is now into the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the modest price being reported, one would have thought Spurs would have pushed the envelope for Zakaria if he was Paratici’s number one target. We evidently seem to be focussing on the likes of Nahitan Nandez, Weston McKennie and Pape Sarr instead.
