Spanish publication Sport claim that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Donny Van de Beek is waiting to see if a move to Barcelona would be possible before deciding on his future.
Van de Beek was one of the standout performers of the Ajax side that won many admirers in Europe during the 2018/19 campaign and he has backed it up with another solid campaign last time out.
The Sun reported in March that the Dutch international was on Spurs’ radar this summer as Jose Mourinho attempts to bolster his midfield options ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Sport claim that Spurs, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all interested in snapping up the 23-year-old.
The report claims that as things stand, Real Madrid are the favourites to land the Ajax star’s signature.
It is suggested that Van de Beek prefers a move to Barcelona to link up with former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman.
However, it is claimes that the Catalan giants are unlikely to be in a position to meet Ajax’s €55 million (£49million) asking price for the midfielder.
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite us being fairly well stocked in the attacking midfield areas with Dele Alli, Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso, I would not be surprised to see us potentially cashing in on Lamela and signing another creative midfielder. The links to the likes of David Brooks and Nicolo Zaniolo suggests that Jose does want to potentially bring in a number ten to compete with Dele Alli and possible move Lo Celso deeper. However, I cannot see us spending around £50m on a player, who might not even be an upgrade over Dele Alli.
