Report: Spurs-linked player would prefer to remain at Juventus

Calciomercato have claimed that Tottenham target Leonardo Bonucci wants to remain at Juventus and has opened talks with the Serie A giants over a contract renewal.

Reports of Tottenham’s interest in Bonucci first emerged earlier this week when CalcioMercatoTV revealed that Antonio Conte wants to reunite with the experienced defender, who he worked with at Juventus and the Italian national side.

The report asserted that the 35-year-old does not have a cordial relationship with Massimiliano Allegri at the moment, and has decided that he wants a change of scenery.

Sport Mediaset subsequently claimed that Juventus would not stand in the way of Bonucci if the centre-back decides he wants to join Tottenham.

However, if Calciomercato‘s latest update is to be believed, the experienced defender wants to remain in Turin and Juve also wish to hold on to him.

It is explained that Juve want the Italy international to lower his current €7m (£6.1m) per year salary, and talks are now ongoing to potentially offer him a contract of the same total value spread over a longer term.

Spurs Web Opinion

There would be outrage from Juventus fans if the club do let Bonucci leave. So, one would expect the Old Lady’s hierarchy to come up with some sort of compromise and agree on a new deal with the centre-back over the coming months.
