Report: Spurs-linked star could be club’s ‘next big sale’ – £21m release clause

In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham, TYC Sport have claimed that River Place could cash in on rumoured target, Julian Alvarez, due to his contract situation.

Alvarez, who came through the River Plate academy, has been on fire at the start of the new campaign, having scored seven goals and registered eight assists in just 11 league appearances.

The centre-forward is alleged to be on the radars of Tottenham, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, and Sevilla.

TYC Sport now claim that Leverkusen are currently leading the race for the 22-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

The report adds that Alvarez could be River Plate’s ‘next big sale’ since his contract expires in December of 2022.

It is explained that ‘it will not be easy’ for the club to negotiate a contract renewal and so they might not be in a position to reject a big offer for the striker in January.

Finally, it is also revealed that Alvarez has a release clause of €25m (£21.3m) in his contract and that River Place will look to get as close to that value as possible for the Argentine international.

Spurs Web Opinion

As talented as Alvarez is, there is always a big risk associated with bringing players in straight from South American football as one can never be sure how they would adapt to the Premier League.

However, one of the reasons Spurs have brought Paratici is to identify these types of talents who can succeed at the highest level and the 21-year-old certainly fits with the profile of signings we have made this summer.
