Report: Spurs-linked star could have contract terminated at current club

Reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Ozan Kabak could have his contract terminated by Schalke, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The German side are said to be eager to get rid of the defender after getting relegated from the Bundesliga as they cannot afford to keep him. As such they are reportedly considering a contract termination.

TuttomercatoWEB claimed last month that Kabak was a target for Tottenham’s new managing director of football Fabio Paratici.

The 21-year-old defender went on loan to Liverpool last season in January amidst Liverpool’s injury crisis which left their options in defence very thin.

The deal did actually contain an option to buy for £18 million but Liverpool did not take it up and instead opted to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

Kabak played nine games in the Premier League, accumulating 803 minutes in his short period for the Premier League side. The defender was also trusted in the Champions League, playing four times (Transfermarkt).

The centre-back earned the move by impressing in his 42 games – in all competitions – for Schalke 04, however, now his future is up in the air as Kabak could well end up as a free agent.

The defender will most certainly move this summer. Despite making mistakes during his short stay at Liverpool, the 21-year-old is still a talent that could develop into a Premier League centre-half.

With Spurs looking to re-shape that position, the deal could be worth pursuing – especially if he is a free agent.
