Report: Spurs-linked starlet now free agent after leaving Premier League rivals

Tottenham-linked forward Sonny Perkins has become a free agent in the transfer market following his departure from West Ham.

Perkins, 18, had been with the Hammers since 2019 but has now left the club after turning down their offers of a professional contract.

West Ham released a statement expressing their ‘disappointment’ at Perkins’ choice to leave and believe his decision was influenced by another club making an approach to sign him.

While it was not mentioned which team had shown an interest in Perkins, it comes after Tottenham were one of a handful of clubs linked with him last month.

The Guardian reported Spurs, Leeds and Aston Villa were all keeping tabs on the situation of the versatile England youth international, who can also be deployed on the wing and in midfield.

Perkins made his senior West Ham debut during their Europa League campaign in a match against Dinamo Zagreb last season and made one appearance in the Premier League. He leaves the club having appeared three times in total (Transfermarkt).

Judging by West Ham’s official statement, those at the club are not happy with the way Perkins’ exit went about and are convinced his thinking was influenced by another team.

He could be a pretty good pick-up as a free agent given he has a solid record for West Ham’s youth teams.
