Report: Spurs-linked striker keen to remain in England

The Guardian has revealed that previous Tottenham Hotspur target Olivier Giroud could be set to leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window and would prefer to remain in the Premier Leauge.

Spurs were heavily linked with Giroud during January of this year after they had lost Harry Kane to a hamstring injury (Daily Mail) but the move failed to materialise.

The French international has since revealed in an interview that he wanted to join Spurs but the Blues blocked a potential transfer to their London rivals (Telefoot).

The Lilywhites landed Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window as an understudy to Kane and the Brazilian has made a solid start to life at Tottenham despite still waiting for his first goal for the club.

The Guardian claims that Giroud, who has continued to struggle for game time at Chelsea this season, could become available again in January.

It is claimed that the 34-year-old will push to leave the club in January after national team boss Didier Deschamps advised him to seek a transfer ahead of the Euros next summer.

While it is said that he would prefer to join another Premier League club, a move to the Serie A is also an option for the former Arsenal man, with Inter Milan said to be monitoring his situation.
