Report: Spurs linked with £10m move for Leeds winger

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to take advantage of Leeds United’s failure to gain promotion to the Premier League by making a move for one of their highly rated young players.

Leeds made it through to the Championship play-offs, but threw away the lead against Derby to continue their exodus from the top flight.

According to Football Insider, Spurs could test the resolve of the Elland Road outfit with a £10million bid.

The young winger has caught the eye during his debut season in senior football where he made 22 appearances in the Championship, netting on one occasion.

Clarke, 18 has flourished under the leadership of manager Marcelo Bielsa who has a fantastic relationship with Mauricio Pochettino.

There are still two-and-a-half years to run on the teenager’s existing deal and was attracting interest from Spurs and Manchester City during the January transfer window (Daily Mail).

Spurs are set to strengthen their squad this summer after going through the last two transfer windows without spending a penny and a move for Clarke could represent good business.

Opinion

It is refreshing to see that Spurs still want to sign talent, rather than throw money at established stars. The signing of Dele Alli from MK Dons is a perfect example of lower league scouting which has paid dividends.

At £10million, the 18-year-old could be worth a gamble.
