Report: Spurs linked with £14.5m move to land Real Madrid winger

Spanish outlet Defensa Central have reported that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make an offer for Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez.

This is not the first occasion that Spurs have been linked with a move for Vasquez after the North Londoners were installed as the front runners for his signature last month (Mirror via The Express).

After coming through the ranks of Real Madrid’s academy and experiencing a season on loan at Espanyol, the winger gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the Los Blancos first-team (transfermarkt).

However, Defensa Central now claim that the long-serving wide man could leave the club this summer, with Spurs ready to pay €16million (£14.5m) to secure his services.

Vazquez has only a year left to run on his contract with the Spanish giants and has failed for regular game time this season, partly down to injury (transfermarkt).

The report suggests that while Zinedine Zidane does not see the 28-year-old as a starter, but instead considers him as an important member of the squad.

It is suggested that Vazquez is happy to stay if he is wanted at the club but a transfer is said to be a possibility amidst Spurs’ interest.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the number of wide players we have been linked with over the past couple of months, it is clear that Jose wants to bring in another winger to compete with Lucas, Son and Bergwijn.

That suggests that we might be employing something resembling a 4-3-3 more often. While Vazquez has plenty of experience and will bring a winning mentality to Tottenham, he does not really suit the kind of explosive counter-attacking side Jose is trying to build.
