Report: Spurs linked with bid which would smash their transfer record

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have made a second bid for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

It was reported earlier this week that Spurs had seen an offer of £53million rejected and were holding out for closer to the €100million (£88million) release clause in his contract (Diario de Sevilla).

Gianlucadimarzio.com. are now reporting that Spurs have now made an offer of €70 million (£62.03m) for the 23-year-old central midfielder.

Lo Celso initially joined Betis on a season-long loan in August 2018 from PSG but the La Liga club triggered their option to buy the player in April for 22m euros (Sky Sports).

He scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 45 games for Betis last season and has been named in Argentina’s squad for the Copa America which begins later this month.

Opinion

Even at the quoted price, Lo Celso would be a shrewd signing for Tottenham. He is capable of playing in both a deep or attacking midfield role which would appeal to Mauricio Pochettino’s preference to sign players who can operate in numerous roles.
