Report: Spurs linked with January move for Juventus defender

According to Turkish publication Fanatik, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Juventus defender Merih Demiral this month.

Demiral was reportedly one of the options on Tottenham’s radar during the summer transfer window but the club eventually ended up signing Joe Rodon, who has had limited opportunities since arriving in North London from Swansea City.

According to Fanatik, Spurs could reignite their interest in the Turkish defender, who has made only nine appearances for Juve this season in all competitions (transfermarkt).

The report claims that the 22-year-old is frustrated at the lack of game time in Turin and wants to leave the club this month so that he can get some game time under his belt ahead of the Euros in the summer.

It is revealed that Spurs face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Leicester City, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid for the centre-back.

Additionally, it is said that the current Serie A champions are demanding €50m (£45m) for Demiral’s services and the Italian club are not receptive to any loan offers with an option to buy him at the end of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Demairal is a brilliant talent and could go on to have a bright future in the game. However, the rumoured £45m asking price would likely put us out of the running for him. For that transfer fee, I suspect Spurs would prefer to get in a more proven campaigner like Milan Skriniar, who would be a much less risky buy.
