Report: Spurs linked with move for French international who is a free agent this summer

According to a report by Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs across Europe who are interested in signing Marseille winger Florian Thauvin.

Thauvin has been a loyal servant for Marseille, having spent eight and a half years at the club since joining in 2013, which was only interrupted by an unsuccessful six-month spell at Newcastle in 2015.

The 28-year-old, who has been capped ten times by Les Blues, has been in fantastic form this season, having managed six goals and nine assists so far (transfermarkt.com).

Estadio Deportivo has claimed that the winger has made it clear to Marseille that he will not renew his contract and that he will be leaving on a free transfer in the summer when his contract expires.

The report reveals that Sevilla have held a long-term interest Thauvin but face competition from Napoli, Roma, Leicester and Spurs.

It is suggested that the Foxes are the front-runners for the experienced winger’s signature as things stand.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have been linked with summer moves for several free agents as well as players who will have just 12 months left on their contracts at the end of the season. That is understandable given the club’s precarious financial situation.

However, Thauvin is not a name that is likely to get Spurs fans too excited. Although the Frenchman might be an upgrade over Lucas Moura, he would not strengthen our starting eleven.
