Report: Spurs linked with move for full-back ahead of January window

According to a report by AS, new Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho wants to make several new signings to reinforce his squad in January.

Among the targets he has identified for the club in the upcoming transfer window is said to be Nice full-back Youcef Atal.

Atal has been linked with a move to Spurs prior to Mourinho’s appointment (Daily Star) but this new report seems to indicate that Mourinho has now given the green light for the move to go ahead.

Spurs have had major problems at right-back this season with Juan Foyth recently returning from injury and neither Serge Aurier or Kyle Walker-Peters managing to nail down the spot.

The Portuguese manager said in his first press conference as Spurs head coach that he was perfectly happy with the squad at his disposal and that he doesn’t require new additions (Football.London).

However, this report seems to contradict the 56-year-old claims by suggesting that he has already drawn up a wish list for January.

The full back areas are probably the most in need of strengthening at the moment and has to be our priority in January. It is for this reason that I would take someone like Atal in January over someone more sought after like Bruno Fernandes. If Mourinho has indeed realized that the team’s weakness is at full-back, then that is good news.
