Report: Spurs linked with move for promising Ajax forward

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race to sign Ajax wonderkid Danilo Pereira da Silva, according to a report in CalcioNapoli24.

Danilo arrived at Ajax from Santos in 2017 and made the step up to the first-team this campaign after spending two years in the club’s infamous academy set up.

The 21-year-old striker has only made a single appearance in Eredivisie, which came just before the league was suspended in March due to COVID-19, before eventually being voided.

The Brazilian has continued to bang in the goals for Ajax’s Under-21s, netting five goals in eight appearances this campaign (transfermarkt.com).

CalcioNapoli24 claim that Tottenham are competing with Napoli and Benfica for the youngster’s signature this summer.

The report suggests that Danilo, who is contracted to Ajax until 2022, could be available for around €4-6million when the transfer window opens in the summer.

It is also revealed that Napoli are yet to formally begin negotiations with Ajax for the striker.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how inexperienced Danilo is at the top level, we could be looking at him as one for the future rather than someone who can be expected to make an impact next season. However, there are a couple of reasons to doubt if we hold any interest in the youngster.

Firstly, he is very much a striker of the Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Jesus mould, i.e someone who relies on quick sharp combination play rather than being capable of holding the ball up. So, the jury is out on whether he will fit Jose’s game plan. Secondly, singing Danilo will make it even more difficult for Troy Parrott to eventually break into the first-team.
