Report: Spurs and Chelsea linked with £87m swoop for La Liga winger

Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out with Chelsea to land Barcelona winger, Ousmane Dembele, according to the latest reports from Spain.

Dembele has failed to live up to expectations since his €125 million move to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017.

The Frenchman has shown glimpses of his ability on a few occasions, including the Champions League group game against Spurs at the Camp Nou last season. However, he has only appeared 74 times across his three seasons in Spain (Wikipedia).

Don Balon now reports that the Catalan giants are ready to sell the winger this summer as they are keen to raise funds to buy Neymar back from Paris Saint-Germain.

The report reveals that both Tottenham and Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Dembele, and are willing to offer €100 million (£87m) for his services. It is added that Barcelona are likely to accept such an offer if it is made.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is simply no chance that there is any truth to this report. The suggestion that Spurs or Chelsea could shatter their transfer record this summer, given the financial constraints clubs are facing, is ridiculous. Barcelona are looking to get rid of a lot of their deadwood in order to raise transfer funds this summer and so the Spanish press seems to be having a field day linking all of their unwanted stars with moves to the Premier League.
