Report: Spurs-linked Zaniolo stretchered off after picking up another injury

Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo had to be stretchered off in the first half of AS Roma’s 1-0 win over Cremonese on Monday.

Despite Jose Mourinho making it clear that he would prefer Zaniolo to remain at the Stadio Olimpico (Express), Tottenham continue to be linked with a move for the winger.

CalcioMercato reported last Thursday that Antonio Conte remains keen on bringing the Italy international to North London.

However, if Spurs were planning on making a late move for the Roma star, they may be put off by the events of Monday evening.

According to Football Italia, Zaniolo fell awkwardly on his left shoulder after being tackled in the 42nd minute of the Giallorossi’s clash against Cremonese.

The winger is then said to have received several minutes of treatment before being helped to his feet and going off on a stretcher, with Stephan El Shaarawy replacing him before half-time.

According to Il Tempo’s update (23/08/22 as relayed by Roma Press), Zaniolo then underwent tests after the game, which revealed that he had a dislocated shoulder. The report adds that the 23-year-old will not have to undergo surgery.

Spurs Web Opinion

Some will see this as evidence that Zaniolo is injury prone and think that Spurs might have dodged the bullet but I do not think that is an entirely fair assessment.

The winger seems to have recovered well from his ACL problems and this injury seems to have been down to an awkward fall on his shoulder, which one can argue is down to bad luck.
