Report: Spurs locked in a three-way battle for PL star – £45m price tag set

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle with Chelsea and Manchester City for Brighton defender Marc Cucurella.

Spurs are expected to be in the market for a left wing-back this summer, with the club expected to cash in on Sergio Reguilon (Football Insider).

Over recent days, Ivan Perisic has emerged as Tottenham’s top target, with reports indicating that the North London club are set to sign him (Fabrizio Romano).

However, it was previously reported that Antonio Conte had also named Cucurella as one of his primary targets ahead of the summer (Fichajes.net).

The 23-year-old has enjoyed an impressive first season in the Premier League since joining Brighton from Getafe last summer, taking home the Seagulls Men’s Players’ Player of the Season and the Supporters’ Player of the Season awards (The Argus).

The Sun have now claimed that Spurs are battling Chelsea and Man City for Cucurella’s this summer.

The report adds that Thomas Tuchel is keen on snapping up the Brighton star and the Blues would have to pay £45m to secure the Spaniard’s services.

Cucurella is arguably a better signing for the long-term than Perisic. However, the latter is more likely to hit the ground running, given that he is well-versed with the demands of the wing-back role in Antonio Conte’s system.

The fact that Sessegnon seems to be progressing well might have convinced Conte and Paratici to go for Perisic, with the England Under-21 international potentially being earmarked to take over from the Croat in a year or two.
