Report: Spurs looking at deal for 21-year-old – Would then loan him back

According to the Mirror, Tottenham are looking into a possible deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie in January, although Chelsea are also said to be interested.

Despite Spurs’ woes in the centre of defence over the past few months, the report claims that Fabio Paratici and co would look to loan Hincapie back to Leverkusen for the rest of the season.

It appears the 21-year-old would not be seen as an immediate addition to Antonio Conte’s XI as Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski were last January.

High-flying Napoli and Conte’s former team, Inter Milan, are also said to be competing for Hincapie’s signature, but both clubs would prefer a summer deal if possible.

This comes after Italian journalist Marco Conterio reported at the start of the year that Spurs were interested in the Ecuador centre-back, with Conte himself apparently driving the interest. Tuttomercatoweb reinforced the rumour, stating Spurs were ahead of Inter Milan in the race.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Hincapie would likely be a great signing for the future, but Tottenham and Conte also need a here-and-now type signing. Someone a bit older with bags of experience at the top of the game, the type of player Conte loves in his side.
