Report: Spurs looking at veteran goalkeeper as potential Lloris replacement

Keylor Navas has emerged as a potential target for Tottenham Hotspur as the club attempts to replace Hugo Lloris as their number-one goalkeeper.

Hugo Lloris looks set to end ten years with Tottenham this summer, as the club hope to find a long-term successor to the Frenchman (Evening Standard).

The 36-year-old has struggled with injury this season and has performed far below the standard we have seen from him previously across 31 appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

Multiple names have been linked with Spurs as they search for a new man between the sticks. Recently, Brentford’s David Raya appears to have become the main target for Spurs (Telegraph).

However, a surprise name has entered the fray as 36-year-old Keylor Navas is now being mentioned as a possible option for Spurs this summer.

Navas is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest until the end of the season and has made 17 appearances for the Premier League side in their fight for survival (Transfermarkt).

According to Foot Mercato, the PSG-owned player is now on the radar of Tottenham as he looks to remain in English football beyond this season.

It is suggested Navas is unlikely to stay at Forest beyond his current loan deal, and is not expected to have a future in France either.

The report claims the keeper “could jump” at the chance to sign for Spurs. However, it is also believed the likes of Brentford, Chelsea, and Leicester City are also keen on the Costa Rican keeper.

In terms of a price for Navas, it is unclear how much PSG would demand. The report states “a handful of million Euros” could be required.

Navas is a great keeper, but is there really any point in us replacing one 36-year-old with another?

We should be looking to sign someone who has some longevity and can provide stability for us for years to come.
