Report: Spurs looking to beat Bayern Munich to the signing of experienced midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic this summer, according to German outlet Fussball Transfers.

Perisic has had a relatively successful loan spell at Bayern Munich this season and has been an important squad player for the German giants, who look set to be on their way to winning another Bundesliga title.

The report claims that Bayern have a clause that will allow them to sign Perisic for £18million when the loan deal comes to an end.

While Bayern are said to be keen on bringing the Croatian international to the Allianz Arena on a permanent basis, it is said that they are not willing to pay £18m and wish to complete the deal for around £9m.

Although Inter reported to have accepted that they will not be able to pocket £18m for Perisic in the wake of the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Serie A giants are said to be holding out for a fee in the region £13.5m for the 31-year-old.

The report suggests that Spurs could potentially swoop for the attacker and beat Bayern to his signature.

Perisic famously reached the World Cup final with Croatia in 2018 and was also part of the Bayern squad that thrashed Spurs 7-2 earlier this season in the Champions League group stages.

Spurs Web Opinion

Perisic is the kind of player Jose Mourinho prefers to work with. While he does not do anything flashy, he always makes smart choices on the ball and is capable of crossing and finishing expertly with either foot. He is also tactically disciplined and puts in a defensive shift. So I can see us potentially prioritising a move for him ahead of other rumoured targets like Willian and Fraser.
