Report: Spurs looking to hijack sponsorship deal from Chelsea

The Nike Air Jordan brand is still looking for a London-based club to collaborate with next season, and Tottenham Hotspur are now looking like they may pull the deal away from Chelsea, with Champions League qualification a key factor.

Tottenham have held a partnership with Nike since 2017, and that collaboration is set to continue for the foreseeable future.

Nike have produced some memorable kits for Spurs over these last few years, with classic home kits and outlandish away strips.

It has been reported for a while now that Nike and the Air Jordan brand are looking for a Premier League side to partner with for an exclusive fourth kit for next season (Footy Headlines).

Spurs were mentioned in that original report, but according to Lukasz Baczek, the final decision for the Jordan brand comes down to the Lilywhites and their London rivals, Chelsea. Apparently, a key factor is the participation in Europe next season.

Spurs could win race for Jordan deal

With a London-based team and European football on the wishlist for Jordan, the latest report comes from Football Insider, who claim Spurs are poised to hijack the deal away from Chelsea.

It is said Tottenham are now “in a position” to win the sponsorship deal, despite Chelsea reportedly being “deep in negotiations” with the kit manufacturer.

Apparently, Jordan are “willing to pay up to £60m” a year for the deal, but there are concerns that such a fee would “struggle to meet the Premier League’s fair market value assessment.”

Regardless of the figure involved, Spurs “could now hijack the deal” as they are better placed to secure European football next season. The North London side are currently fifth in the league, while Chelsea are down in 11th place.

Spurs Web Opinion

I honestly can’t see Chelsea getting this deal over us. Why would Jordan waste £60m a year on a club struggling in mid-table when they could be associated with Spurs, who are hopefully going to be in the Champions League next year?
