Report: Spurs looking to sign Italy international on cut-price deal in January

According to a report from La Repubblica (as relayed by Football Italia), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne for a cut-price in January.

Insigne’s future in Napoli is in doubt, with the winger now approaching the final six months of his contract.

The Italy international was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar during the summer transfer window and the North London club have been backed to reignite their interest in the player in January.

The 30-year-old is alleged to be unhappy with the new deal offered by Napoli, with the two parties still thought to be a long way away from an agreement.

Italian journalist Fabio Santini revealed earlier this week that Spurs are the winger’s most likely destination, with the Napoli captain said to be ‘flattered’ by interest from the Lilywhites.

La Repubblica have now revealed that Antonio Conte is an admirer of Insigne, having worked with the experienced wide man during his time in charge of the Azzuri.

The report adds that Spurs are looking to complete a ‘low-cost’ transfer swoop for the Napoli star next month owing to his contract situation.

I have a strong suspicion that this speculation is being fed to the media by Insigne’s representatives in order to put pressure on Napoli to improve their contract offer.

I do not see the 30-year-old being a good fit for the Premier League and I believe Paratici and Conte are likely to target players of a younger profile as part of the squad rebuild.
