Report: Spurs looking to sign new right wing-back and forward in January

According to The Athletic, Tottenham are planning to enter the market to sign an attacking right wing-back and a forward in January.

The winter market will be the first for Tottenham under the tutelage of Antonio Conte, who is expected to receive backing from the club to strengthen his squad.

The Italian has lifted spirits in North London following his arrival having maintained an unbeaten Premier League record so far, with his side’s latest display yielding a draw against title challengers Liverpool.

However, Conte is unlikely going to sit still, which has led The Athletic to claim he could look to strengthen two positions in his line-up.

Having switched to his preferred back three, much of Spurs’ play has focused around the wing-backs, with Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal spearheading the side’s attacking play.

Brazilian right-back Emerson has slotted in well since being acquired from Barcelona in the summer, however, has often struggled with going forward, which has led to reports claiming a new attack-minded right-wing-back could be on the radar.

Meanwhile, despite having the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son at his disposal, Conte is also said to have put a new forward on his January shortlist, tasked with getting one of the league’s lowest-scoring teams firing again.

Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic has been tipped to be on the club’s radar, but The Athletic’s report also warns that Spurs’ dealings in the winter will correlate with any outgoing players.

Conte has quickly started to identify areas that need improving, and those above him at the club will need to listen to him for the best outcome on the pitch. If these are the positions that he has targeted, then Spurs need to draw up their shortlist.
