Report: Spurs ‘lurking’ for midfielder but are only willing to pay half of club’s valuation

Joao Palhinha’s performance for Sporting against Belenenses at the weekend has seen some Portuguese news outlets provide an update of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in the midfielder.

Palhinha was in impressive form on Saturday, having played a key role in helping his side to a 2-0 win at the José Alvalade Stadium, which included him netting the second goal of the game in the 48th minute with a close-range effort.

Record claim that Tottenham are still keen to sign the Portuguese international before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, however, both clubs are still some way apart with the respective valuation with Spurs having €20m (£17.1m) to spend, while Sporting are expecting €40m (£34.2m).

Fellow Portuguese news outlet A Bola report that Tottenham are still ‘lurking’ for the 26-year-old, yet Sporting are not prepared to entertain any offers below €30m (£25.6m) and would prefer to hold out for close to €40m (£34.2m)

With Tanguy Ndombele’s future at the club looking to be bleak, and Moussa Sissoko tipped to leave the club, there is definitely a need for Fabio Paratici and co to bring in another defensive midfielder before the window closes.
