Report: Spurs make approach to sign Barcelona star on loan

According to a report from Spanish publication Sport, Tottenham have enquired with Barcelona about potentially signing Miralem Pjanic on a loan deal.

Pjanic has not had the expected impact since moving to the Camp Nou 12 months ago, with the midfielder only making 19 league appearances for Ronald Koeman’s side last season, failing to register a single goal or assist.

Sport now claims that Barcelona are keen to trim their wage bill and are willing to listen to offers for the midfielder.

The report reveals that the 31-year-old is attracting plenty of interest from Italy, with both the Milan clubs interested while a return to Juve is also on the cards for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international.

It is explained, however, that while Juve want to sign Pjanic on a two-year loan deal, the midfielder would have to lower his salary in order to return to the Allianz Stadium.

Tottenham are now said to have entered the mix, with Fabio Paratici allegedly approaching Barcelona ‘in recent hours’ to ask about loaning the experienced star.

Pjanic is not the player that he was a few years ago and the 31-year-old’s game is not particularly well suited to the pace and intensity of the Premier League. However, a loan deal would make the Bosnian a risk-free signing with no potential downsides.
