Report: Spurs make Barcelona player a ‘priority’ signing for next summer

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a surprise move for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter-Stegen, according to French news outlet Jeunes Footeux.

Current Tottenham number one Hugo Lloris, who turns 36 in December, is out of contract in the summer of 2024 having penned an extension to his deal (Spurs official).

Lloris had an afternoon to forget at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday when he gifted Arsenal the lead after failing to catch Cristian Romero’s prodded pass and instead saw the ball go through his body which allowed Gabriel Jesus to tap home.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak as a replacement for the World Cup winner (The Evening Standard).

Jeunes Footeux claim that Oblak is not the only goalkeeper on Spurs’ radar with ter-Stegen said to have been make a ‘priority’ for next summer.

The German international has an eye-watering £438million transfer release clause in the contract he signed with Barcelona in 2020, with the La Liga giants said to be open to his departure should the right offer be tabled.

Lloris has been a brilliant servant for Tottenham, however, he continues to make high-profile errors at costly times for his side. Granted, he has ironed out a lot of mistakes since returning from his shoulder injury in 2019, but the error he made at Arsenal on Saturday was something even a Sunday league goalkeeper should have caught.
