Mundo Deportivo have revealed that in an effort to beat Barcelona to the signing of Lucas Bergvall on transfer deadline day, Tottenham Hotspur has assured the midfielder that he will go straight into the club’s first-team set-up.
Despite being just 17 years of age, Bergvall is quickly emerging as one of the most promising young talents in Swedish football, having already established himself as a mainstay in the Djurgardens starting eleven and even being capped for the national side against Estonia earlier this month.
Over the last 24 hours, it has been widely reported that the midfielder is expected to choose between Tottenham and Barcelona, having visited both clubs over recent days (Expressen).
Last night, Fabrizio Romano explained that Barca are confident of winning the race for the teenager but Spurs are continuing to reach out to the player’s camp in an effort to hijack the deal.

Tottenham promise Lucas Bergvall a first-team spot
Mundo Deportivo have now offered a more detailed explanation of the state of play, revealing that Barca find themselves in an ‘intense fight’ with Spurs over the player.
The report says that even though Bergvall has met with the Catalan club’s sporting director Deco, he has not given them a positive response yet.
It is explained that this is because the Lilywhites have promised the Swede that he will go straight into Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad if he arrives at Hotspur Way.
In contrast, the La Liga giants’ proposal was for the 17-year-old to initially join the academy set-up before being promoted to the senior squad next season.

Tottenham potentially have a big advantage in the race for Bergvall as Ange Postecoglou can speak directly to the midfielder about his plans and how he would fit into his set-up. However, Xavi cannot do the same since he has announced that he is exiting Camp Nou this summer.
