Report: Spurs make contact with Chelsea player’s agent ahead of January window

TEAMtalk have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have now reached out to the representatives of Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah over a potential January transfer.

Several contradictory reports have emerged regarding Spurs’ interest in Chalobah over the last couple of months.

While some outlets have reported that the 24-year-old is one of the names at the top of Ange Postecolgou’s defensive wishlist (GiveMeSport), others have suggested over the last few weeks that Tottenham’s interest in the player has now cooled due to his recent injury problems. (Sky Sports).

The one thing that seems clear is that the Cobham academy graduate appears not to have a long-term future at Stamford Bridge, with a whole spate of publications suggesting that he is surplus to requirements under former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino (Football Insider).

Tottenham make contact with Trevoh Chalobah

TEAMtalk have now suggested that Spurs are still very much in the running for the Chalobah signature ahead of January.

In fact, they say that the Lilywhites have already sounded out the Chelsea star’s representatives to understand their options for a potential deal.

The report adds that Tottenham are expected to face competition for Chalobah, with Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace also said to be monitoring the player who has now managed to feature in Chelsea’s last nine matches (transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Spurs would consider a move for Chalobah in January, given the centre-back’s recent injury record and the need for defenders who are ready to step in given Micky van de Ven’s hamstring issue. I can see the Lilywhites potentially considering a loan deal with an option to buy but it remains to be seen if Chelsea would be open to such an agreement.
