Report: Spurs make contract offer to first-team regular

According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur have offered a new contract to Hugo Lloris whose future has been the subject of much speculation recently.

Lloris has been in fantastic form since returning from his injury lay off at the start of last year having dislocated his elbow at Brighton in October 2019 (Sky Sports).

Reports have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino wants to take the Tottenham captain to PSG but it has been suggested that the North Londoners are determined to hold onto him.

The Athletic now claim that there is already a new offer on the table from Spurs for the 33-year-old whose current deal runs out in the summer of 2022.

However, talks between Lloris’ representatives and the club are not said to be especially advanced at this point.

Meanwhile, the report also suggests that a new deal for Son Heung-min will be should be a fairly straight-forward one to do, even though Tottenham have put off any contract negotiations for now due to the financial uncertainty caused by the pandemic.

Athletic journalist Charlie Eccleshare said: “Hugo Lloris is a slightly different situation. His contract expires this June, so it’s a little more pressing. Our information is that Spurs have already made an initial offer, but that talks are not especially advanced at this point.”

One can argue that Lloris is close to being in the best run of form of his Tottenham career. The Frenchman certainly has not been this consistent since 2016. So, Spurs will likely do everything they can to keep him. If he does not sign a new deal before the end of the season, then the club may not have any choice other than to sell him as he will have just a year to run on his deal.
