Report: Spurs make enquiry for Barcelona forward

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Tottenham have registered an interest in Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay during talks involving Clement Lenglet.

Spurs are reportedly edging closer to the loan signing of centre-back Lenglet, having agreed on personal terms with the Frenchman (The Sun).

The 27-year-old would provide depth to Antonio Conte’s back-three and Sport claim that he is not the only player from the La Liga giants that Spurs are interested in.

Dutch forward Depay has reportedly been told that if an offer in excess of £20 million arrives this summer then he could be sold (Sport).

The 28-year-old is said to want to continue his stay with the Blaugrana, however, if forced out, the player would prioritise a move to a team who play in the Champions League this season (Sport).

The former Manchester United and Lyon player has made 37 appearances for Barca, scoring 13 goals in all competitions since moving to the Nou Camp (transfermarkt).

However, with Barcelona aiming to bring both Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha to the Spotify Camp Nou this season, the departure of Depay is seen as inevitable (Sport).

Depay has also been mentioned as a potential makeweight in a deal for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, however, they would prefer to sell to Tottenham and recoup a transfer fee given the good relations between the two clubs.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Spurs announcing the arrival of Brazilian forward Richarlison just last week, I don’t see Depay also making the move to North London this window.

However, if Steven Bergwijn finally makes his long-awaited switch to Ajax, there may be a spot that opens up in Spurs’ attack ahead of next season.
