Report: Spurs make first move to sign Nice right-back

Tottenham Hotspur may look to strengthen their right back position this summer, after suffering problems with their current crop this season.

Both Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier have struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances at right-back through this campaign, and Pochettino may look to bring in reinforcements once the transfer window opens.

Spurs have been linked with Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace (Sun) and Max Aarons from Norwich (Sun), but a new report claims Tottenham have made a move to sign a right back from overseas.

The Telegraph say that Spurs have made the first move to sign Nice full-back Youcef Atal, by enquiring about the player’s signature.

Atal is only 22-years-old, has six international caps to his name, and has also enjoyed a wonderful season for the French club, even scoring six goals from a defensive position.

Tottenham are said to need to pay something in the region of £34m to sign the Algerian defender this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

My first choice right-back signing would be Wan-Bissaka, followed by Max Aarons, purely for the experience in the English game and the fact they would count as homegrown players. Atal also sounds like an accomplished young full-back, but the talk of his goals and skills don’t fill me without confidence about his sensibility and defending. The thing I like most about Wan-Bissaka is that he is a defender first, and an attacker second.
