Report: Spurs make opening bid for French midfielder

While Tottenham’s focus will be on the Champions League final in three days time, this summer transfer window is a crucial one for the club with the squad in desperate need of new additions, after Spurs failed to sign a single player in the last two windows.

Central midfield is among the areas where the club is in need for upgrades, with Mousa Dembele, who left for Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F in January (BBC), yet to be replaced.

Among the names linked with Tottenham is Lyon midfielder Tanguy NDombele, who has another fantastic season in Ligue 1. The 22-year-old has been one of Lyon’s most consistent players over the last couple of seasons, winning several admirers with his combative displays.

L’Equipe reported on the 19th of May that Tottenham were leading the race for the Frenchman’s signature.

However, it looks like Tottenham fans have some room for optimism again as L’Equipe claimed on Tuesday that Tottenham and Juventus have both submitted their initial offers for the Lyon man.

The report claims that Lyon are holding out for €80-€100m for Ndombele and Tottenham’s offer was well short of that evaluation.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the number of reports linking Spurs to Ndombele, it is obvious that there is interest there but it looks like Tottenham have to fend off some serious competition for the Frenchman’s signature.

While Ndombele will be a brilliant acquisition for Spurs, at the prices being branded about for him, Tottenham might be tempted to look elsewhere.
