Report: Spurs make PL star their top transfer target after Nuno green light

The Telegraph have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have made Southampton striker Danny Ings their number one target this summer.

Ings is into the final 12 months of his deal at St Mary’s and it was previously reported that Tottenham could look to take advantage of his contract situation and snap him this summer.

The Telegraph have now claimed that Daniel Levy previously tried to sign Ings in 2015 and is set to make a fresh move for him this summer after getting the green light from new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and managing director Fabio Paratici.

The report adds that Ings has made it clear to the Saints that he will not sign a new contract and that the striker is valued at around £20m.

It is asserted that Spurs’ plan to sign Ings as a part of Nuno’s vision to form a two-man attack next season, with the Portuguese coach believing that the 28-year-old can play alongside Harry Kane.

Even if Nuno decides to use a two-man attack, it is difficult to see Ings starting ahead of either Kane or Son, assuming Spurs do hold on to the England captain. So, the North London club might find it challenging to convince Ings to join as he would know that opportunities could prove limited for him at N17.
