Report: Spurs make ‘significant’ offer for transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have made an offer for Leeds United winger Jack Clarke.

Football Insider claim that the North London side have lodged a bid which has been described as ‘significant’ but still falls short of Leeds’ valuation.

It was recently reported by The Mirror that Leeds were demanding £20million for the highly rated winger.

Spurs have previously seen an offer of £10million rebuffed by the Elland Road outfit who failed at the first hurdle of the Championship play offs in their quest to return to the top flight (The Mail).

Clarke has come through the academy ranks at Leeds and made his debut this season before going on to make 24 appearances in all competitions where he scored two goals and provided two assists.

His progress was somewhat halted when he was taken to hospital during a game at Middlesbrough in February when he was among the subsitutes watching the match and collapsed; most of his appearances afterwards came as a replacement.

Opinion

While it is unlikely that Clarke would be ready to hit the ground running and push for a place in the Spurs team from the off, he is regarded as one of the Championship’s brightest talents and £20m in today’s crazy market does not buy a proven player.
