Report: Spurs man backed to leave this summer – Inter, Roma, Betis, and Valencia circling

The latest reports from Italy indicate that Jan Vertonghen will leave the Premier League this summer and sign for either a Serie A or La Liga club.

Vertonghen’s contract with the North Londoners runs out at the end of the standard season calendar and recent reports have backed the long-serving defender to bid farewell to Tottenham this summer (Football Insider).

The centre-half has maintained that he is yet to make a decision on where his future lies (Sporza).

The Belgian international has been linked with moves to Inter Milan (Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness), Roma, and Napoli (Gazzetta dello Sport via TEAMtalk).

Calcio Mercato have now reported that the defender’s chances of renewing his contract with Spurs are dead and that he will look to leave English football for a new adventure this summer.

They suggest that the centre-half is Inter’s top target to replace Diego Godin, while Roma also want him if they fail to sign Chris Smalling.

They reveal that two other clubs in Real Betis and Valencia have also entered the race for the Spurs star.

Spurs Web Opinion

All signs point to the fact that Vertonghen is on his way out this summer. The centre-half will certainly get a lucrative contract elsewhere given how sought after free agents are. I still feel as if he would prefer to stay at Spurs if the club offered him a two-year extension but that is unlikely to happen unless his form drastically improves when the Premier League season resumes next month.
